I had the pleasure of living and working in Monaco during 2007 and 2008. The Maritime Alps capture all that mountains have to offer with the exception of glaciers.
The region is rich in flora and fauna, in recent years wolves have returned and also the awesome lammergeir. In autumn the colours rival those of New England.

A remarkable peak, different from the rest. Arid and barren - out of Africa it seems.
Attractive isolated peak north of Mont Pelat. Climbed solo - eleven hour round trip on one day.
Highest peak in the Mercantour Park and in the French Maritime Alps. The summiit gully is not for boys!
My first Mercantour summit - climbed solo from the Refuge de Nice (winter room only). Spectacular snow ascent in crampons.
The atmosphere made this day what it was - mysterious, awesome, primeval...
Approached by the impressive Chemin de l'Energie. Climbed from the refuge the following day, an exhausting descent.
