Europe's Highest

An amazing arete south of Mt Blanc. A gem, and my first Alpine ascent.
A failed attempt on the highest peak in The Alps. My colleage and I became separated, we both turned back to the Gouter Refuge! Reached 4250m at the Dome de Gouter.
Domes de Miage 3673 m
Mont Blanc 4809 m
A high and challenging ascent via the Glacier des Grande Couloirs. My partner lost his axe at the summit and a crampon on the descent. I atched his every step in front of me holing a knife ready to cut the rope!
Grande Casse 3847 m
Les Bans 3671 m
In my view the finest peak in The Erins Park, perhaps in France. Glacier, rock climing, aretes, this mountain has it all!

A failed attempt from the awsome Refuge du Promontoire. The exposure was simply too much to bear.
Picturesque glacier peak, worthy pendant to the Ciamarella. Climbed in two days with a night at the Evettes Refuge.
L'Albaron 3647 m
Le Rateau 3849 m

France, a country that has it all, perhaps eclipsed  by Italy only. Great mountains, good food and stylish fashion and cafe culture. My first forays into the greater ranges was in the Vanoise, where I discovered Alpine refuges, with bread and jam and coffee in a bowl for breakfast, the predawn starts lit by head torch and the spaghetti bolognaise evening meal.
